Windermere Warriors Defeat AA #2 King George Dragons to Claim VPD Title

The annual McDonald’s VPD tournament hosted by Gladstone and Windermere attempts to bring together all Vancouver schools for a 3-day, 16-team tournament before the winter holidays. In the final game, unranked AAA Windermere faced King George who were coming off winning the Gladstone Tip-Off and G.W. Graham tournaments over the last two weeks and were recently ranked as AA #3. The Warriors had come out to play and jumped to a 28-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Mohit Owan continued to carry the Warriors’ scoring load as he hit 3 consecutive turnaround jumpers at one point. Windermere went into half-time with a 42-24 lead behind Owan’s 20 points. Relying on grade 11 standout, Yoel Teclehaimanot, King George cut the lead down to 54-41 at the end of the third. Despite Windermere’s lead shrinking to 6 points late in the fourth, Milldrag Stupar & Sahil Soni made their free throws as the Warriors took the VPD title with a 70-60 win.
